The Philippines has officially recognized Poland’s approach to regionalization for African swine fever (ASF) and has lifted the temporary ban on imports of Polish pork and pork products. The decision was made following a veterinary risk assessment.

The Philippine Bureau of Animal Industry has completed its review and evaluation of Poland’s application for bilateral recognition of ASF regionalization. The analysis concluded that Poland maintains adequate veterinary oversight and has implemented the necessary disease control and mitigation measures. According to the Philippine side, this ensures a low risk associated with importing pork and pork by-products, including meat, from the identified zones proposed for recognition.

As a result, the Philippines has lifted the temporary ban on the importation of live pigs, pork, and processed pork products from Poland.

All import transactions will be carried out in accordance with the bilaterally agreed regionalization terms and conditions. These are set out in the Philippine Department of Agriculture Administrative Circular No. 12, series of 2025, which provides guidelines for the bilateral recognition of ASF regionalization from accredited exporting countries of swine and their products and by-products.

The decision opens the door to the resumption of Polish pork exports to the Philippine market within the approved zones and may serve as a positive signal for other countries applying the regionalization principle in ASF control.
