According to the Spanish Confederation of Compound Feed Manufacturers (CESFAC), Spain produced 30.86 million tonnes of compound feed in 2025, approximately 1.7 million tonnes more than the previous year. CESFAC forecasts production to remain broadly stable in 2026 at around 30.9 million tonnes.
The organisation notes that direct comparisons with previous years are limited due to a change in the statistical methodology introduced by Spain’s National Statistics Office in line with new European Union regulations.
Pig feed continues to account for the largest share of total compound feed production. Last year, nearly 13.4 million tonnes of pig feed were produced, representing more than 45% of the country's total output. Although production exceeded 14 million tonnes in the record year of 2021, pig feed output has consistently remained above 13 million tonnes over the past five years.
The main production hubs remain Catalonia, which accounts for nearly 15% of total compound feed production, and Aragon, contributing around 10%.
Compound feed production for cattle reached 8 million tonnes in 2025 and is expected to increase to 8.2 million tonnes in 2026.
Feed production for the poultry sector exceeded 5.6 million tonnes. Over the past five years, this segment has shown steady growth, increasing from just under 4.9 million tonnes, with CESFAC forecasting a further rise of approximately 115,000 tonnes this year.
In addition, Spain produced nearly 2.26 million tonnes of feed for sheep and goats and around 283,000 tonnes for rabbits. However, statistics for small ruminant feed are also affected by the revised reporting methodology.
CESFAC President Fernando Antúnez emphasized that the compound feed industry remains a strategic pillar of the entire agri-food chain. He noted that manufacturers continue to supply safe, efficient and high-quality feed while adapting to changing regulations, geopolitical uncertainty and evolving market demands, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of Spanish livestock production.
