South Korea has confirmed its 10th African swine fever (ASF) case since the beginning of the year. Following the detection, authorities imposed a temporary standstill and launched urgent disease control measures.

On Monday, South Korea confirmed its 10th ASF case of 2026. The outbreak was detected at a farm in Naju, South Jeolla Province, where about 1,280 pigs are raised.

According to the Central Accident Control Headquarters for ASF, the farm has epidemiological links to a site in Yeonggwang in the same province, where an ASF case was reported last month.

To contain the spread of the virus, a quarantine team and epidemiological investigators will be dispatched to the farm. Access by outsiders will be restricted. All pigs on the farm will be culled to prevent further spread of the infection.

Authorities also imposed a 24-hour temporary standstill on pig farms and related facilities, including slaughterhouses and butcher shops.

After receiving a report on the new case, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok ordered immediate containment measures, including restricting access to the affected site and carrying out culling operations. He also stressed the need for a thorough epidemiological investigation to identify the source of the outbreak.

African swine fever does not affect humans but is fatal to pigs. There is currently no vaccine or effective treatment for the disease.
