The decrease in prices for chilled pork on supermarket shelves during October is stated by analysts of the Association of Pork Producers of Ukraine based on the results of monthly monitoring of prices of national retail chains.
The average retail price of pork in October «sank» by 2.3% or 4.3 UAH/kg. While at the beginning of the month a kilo of chilled meat cost 188.4 UAH/kg on average, within three weeks that figure dropped to 184.1 UAH/kg.
«Prices on the shelves of supermarkets fell, reflecting the negative price dynamics on pigs slaughtered condition. At the same time retail price revision is much slower — during the month the average price per kilogram of live hog has lost 7 UAH. The difference between the dynamics of consumer and procurement prices is caused by both traditional 5−7 days lag in changes of retail prices, and a number of factors that affect pricing at other links of the supply chain», — as stated in the analytical department of AUPB.
In spite of the negative dynamics, high prices at the beginning of the month and weakening with a lag, contributed to an increase in the average price at the end of the month. Thus, a kilogram of pork in October on the average cost 185.8 UAH / kg, which is 5% or 9.3 UAH / kg more expensive than in September. «Most of all in the previous month rose in price budget and seasonally popular thigh and shoulder — by 11.7 UAH/kg and 15.1 UAH/kg respectively. The price changes for the other parts were limited by 4−10 UAH / kg or 3.5−5% respectively,» analysts added.
