Japan has confirmed a new case of classical swine fever (CSF), marking the fourth incident recorded in the country since the beginning of 2026. This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.
The infection was identified at a pig farm in the city of Fujinomiya (Shizuoka Prefecture) after authorities were alerted to the deaths of several piglets. Subsequent inspections and laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the virus.
As part of containment measures, approximately 3,000 pigs at the affected farm are to be culled. The carcasses will be disposed of through incineration and burial in accordance with established veterinary protocols.
An epidemiological team will be deployed to determine the source and transmission routes of the infection. At the same time, authorities are strengthening biosecurity measures, including enhanced disinfection and efforts to prevent wild animals from accessing the farm, in order to contain the spread of the disease.
Overall, the CSF situation in Japan remains challenging, and rapid response combined with strengthened biosecurity is critical to controlling the outbreak.
