The Government of Ukraine and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) signed an agreement on the establishment of the FAO Project Office in Ukraine and provision of assistance by the organization to Ukrainian agriculture. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.

Yulia Sviridenko, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, who signed the agreement on behalf of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, noted that "cooperation between FAO and Ukraine, which has been ongoing for many years, will get a new impetus with the opening of the Project Office".

"Strengthening cooperation is important today and given the need to prolong the Grain Initiative, whose deadline expires on November 19. Ukraine looks forward to FAO's support on this issue. This is very important both for Ukraine and for the countries where there are problems with food security", Sviridenko added.

In his turn, Laurent Thomas, Deputy General Director of FAO, stressed that after the beginning of large-scale hostilities, FAO has expanded its activities in Ukraine to support agricultural production and food systems in order to protect war-affected households and communities.

"This agreement allows us to expand cooperation in the country, increase Ukraine's agricultural potential and protect the food security of every vulnerable Ukrainian," he said.
