Ukraine exported 38.5 million tons of grain to foreign markets last year, which is 42% higher than in 2021, but 32% less than in the record year 2019. This is stated in the report of the NSC Institute of Agrarian Economics.

Last year, income from the export of Ukrainian grain amounted to 9.1 billion dollars.

The largest buyers of Ukrainian grain in 2022, as before, were the countries of Asia, Africa and Europe. At the same time last year there was an increased emphasis on the European market.

The strengthening of the European vector in the domestic export of grains has led to significant changes in the ranking of the main consumers of this type of agricultural products. China, which since 2020 confidently held leadership in the top 10 largest importers of Ukrainian grain, gave way to Romania, which in 2021 was not even in the top 20 major consumers of grain. Last year, Romania imported Ukrainian grain for $ 1.24 billion. Its share was 13.6%.

The top 10 buyers of Ukrainian grain are as follows:

  • Romania (13.9%);
  • China (12,1%);
  • Spain (10.8%);
  • Turkey (9.6%);
  • Poland (7.0%);
  • Egypt (5.9%);
  • Italy (4.4%);
  • Hungary (4.4%);
  • Netherlands (3.7%);
  • South Korea (2.1%).

In 2022 Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, Libya and Tunisia dropped out of the top 10.
