She recalled that the sanctions imposed by the EU and the US in 2014 and 2021 against Russia did not prevent Russia from invading Ukraine three months ago. The restrictions did not affect the most important commodities - oil and gas - so they did not actually hinder the economic potential of the aggressor. The sanctions against Russia were not imposed quickly enough and not by all countries.
"Every day Ukraine loses its people, entire cities are wiped off the face of the earth, infrastructure is destroyed, homes and industry are destroyed. Ukraine is projected to lose more than 30% of its GDP. Our seaports are blocked. We need the world's help to unblock them," stressed Yulia Sviridenko.
Therefore, the next powerful package, which will block the financing of the war in Ukraine, should be adopted. Among the key sanctions measures are a complete embargo on Russian oil and gas and disconnecting Russia from SWIFT.
"Tough sanctions against russia are important to impose as soon as possible. After all, this country is not the only source of aggression. There are other autocratic rulers in various parts of the world waiting for their chance to attack. They watch the road and see how the free world reacts. If they see us weak, they will attack," emphasized Yulia Sviridenko.
We would remind you that the World Economic Forum takes place in Davos (Switzerland) on May 22-26. Its aim is to attract business, political, academic and other leaders of society to a dialogue on trends of development of the economy and the world.
