How can diseases be detected before clinical signs appear? How can economic losses be minimized and herd biosecurity strengthened? These and other important questions will be addressed by Professor Dmytro Masiuk during the upcoming online event "Innovations in Swine Production" on June 11.

As part of the "Innovations in Swine Production" online event, Professor Masiuk will deliver a presentation titled "Innovative Approaches to Diagnosing Swine Diseases: From Air Sampling to Genotyping and Microbiome Analysis." He will present cutting-edge diagnostic tools that are already enabling more effective animal health management, reducing treatment costs, and mitigating risks associated with antimicrobial resistance.

Key topics of the presentation include:

  • Air sampling technology, which allows early detection of pathogens at the herd level without stressing the animals. This is a fast and reliable tool for decision-making during infectious outbreaks.
  • Porcine circovirus infections (PCV2 and PCV3): Professor Masiuk will present a comprehensive approach to identifying and differentiating PCV2 (a, b, d) and PCV3 genotypes using PCR, along with immune status monitoring through ELISA testing.
  • Porcine cytomegalovirus (PCMV): The presentation will focus on the risks of latent infection, which can go unnoticed but cause serious reproductive and respiratory issues, especially in intensive production systems.
  • Microbiome analysis and intestinal barrier function: Molecular tools for gut health assessment will be discussed, allowing for a personalized veterinary strategy—adapting feeding programs, selecting vaccines, and choosing medications based on microbiota conditions.
