The BayProTier program has been supporting local farms for three years by compensating additional expenses related to improved animal welfare—such as extra labor or bedding. To qualify for funding, farms must meet specific requirements including increased space, microclimate improvements, and modified floor structures.
According to the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture, all areas of support under BayProTier will remain unchanged for the 2025/2026 funding cycle. In piglet production and rearing, two levels of support—“comfort” and “premium”—are offered, each with different requirements and payment rates. Farmers may apply for funding in four modules: mating barns, waiting barns, farrowing barns, and piglet rearing units.
In pig fattening, support is granted for housing systems with outdoor climate stimulation or outdoor access, provided specific space standards are met. A flat rate of €70 is offered per BayProTier-compliant pig fattening space.
