The Finnish Food Authority has expanded the core area of the African swine fever (ASF) infected zone in Lappeenranta following detection of the virus in a shot wild boar. The authority said the new finding indicates that the disease is actively spreading.

The core area has been extended by approximately 9 km to the northeast, towards Rummuntie and Tervajoki in Lappeenranta.

The boundaries of the infected zone itself remain unchanged.

The decision was taken after ASF was confirmed in a wild boar shot in Lappeenranta. According to the Finnish veterinary authorities, the case indicates that the virus continues to spread actively in the region.
