In Denmark, a group of pork producers has proposed a gradual exit plan from the industry amid increasing political and societal pressure. However, sector organizations firmly reject this idea and call for conditions that would allow production to be maintained and developed in the country.

The initiative emerged following an election campaign during which there were calls to significantly reduce or even completely phase out pig production in Denmark. According to market participants, this climate has negatively affected farmers’ sentiment and increased uncertainty in the sector.

At the same time, H.C. Gæmelke, president of the pig sector at Landbrug & Fødevarer, emphasized that while he understands the reasons behind the proposal, the industry does not support it. He noted that the public debate often overlooks key aspects, including the economic and social impact on rural areas, employment, the meat processing industry, and related sectors.

Industry representatives stress that instead of encouraging producers to exit, the focus should be on creating stable conditions for doing business. This includes supporting investments in animal welfare and further improving production practices.

Thus, the Danish pork sector advocates for evolutionary development and adaptation to new requirements rather than production cuts, highlighting its strategic importance for the economy and rural communities.
