Shipping Danish pork to Poland is not a new practice for Danish Crown. However, in the coming months, a larger share of the raw materials from pigs supplied by the cooperative’s owners will be processed at Sokołów facilities.
The company produces, among other things, cold cuts, sausages and pâtés for the Polish market. More than 70% of Sokołów’s output is processed products, the highest level within the Danish Crown group.
According to Sokołów CEO Przemek Gostkiewicz, the move will allow Danish Crown to make more efficient use of its own raw materials, production capacity and the expertise of its Polish business.
Instead of purchasing additional raw materials on the external market, the company will be able to focus more on processing and selling higher-value products.
Larger volumes of forequarters and hams are expected to be sent to Poland.
Meanwhile, middle cuts will continue to be processed in Denmark, where Danish Crown already has a strong market position and can generate higher value from these products.
The company expects that reallocating raw materials between its Danish and Polish operations will improve utilisation of Sokołów’s processing capacity while also increasing the value of pigs supplied by Danish Crown’s cooperative owners.
