On June 16–17, a new series of training sessions for representatives of territorial communities took place in Lviv as part of the “Achieving Results and Supporting Epidemic Control” (EpiC) project, implemented with the participation of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB). The training focused on communication strategies for the responsible use of antibiotics in animal production and on combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

The events brought together representatives of local self-government authorities, professionals from the social and educational sectors, as well as members of civil society organizations working directly with local communities.

During the training sessions, participants discussed the issue of antimicrobial resistance and its impact on both human and animal health, as well as the role of communities in promoting responsible antibiotic use. Particular attention was paid to common mistakes made during the treatment of animals in household farms and to effective ways of communicating important information to animal owners.

The practical component of the training included interactive exercises and role-playing activities, during which participants simulated communication scenarios related to responsible antibiotic use and explored effective approaches to changing behavioral practices at the community level.

The Lviv training sessions marked another stage of the nationwide EpiC training program for community representatives, livestock producers, and specialists of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection. The activities are conducted within the framework of the “Achieving Results and Supporting Epidemic Control” (EpiC) project, funded by the U.S. Department of State, which aims to strengthen public health capacity, animal health systems, and cross-sectoral cooperation in addressing infectious disease threats.

The next stages of the EpiC training program for community representatives will take place in July and August in Rivne, Cherkasy, Kropyvnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Uzhhorod, and Chernihiv. Participation is free of charge; however, the number of places is limited and prior registration is required.
