On May 5–6, a series of practical trainings on the responsible use of antibiotics in livestock production took place in Poltava as part of the international EpiC project, with the participation of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders. The focus was on practical solutions for working under new veterinary regulations.

Participants explored key topics, including prescription-based antibiotic use, the role of licensed veterinarians, requirements for record-keeping and traceability, as well as response algorithms in case of animal diseases. Particular attention was given to hands-on practice through case studies closely reflecting real farm conditions.

Vasyl, a training participant, commented:

“The training was very useful. The most valuable part for me was the antibiotics module — what can be used and how to apply it correctly. Previously, there were many questions regarding licensing and requirements, and everything seemed complicated. After the training, I now understand how it works in practice.

The practical part was especially valuable — approaches to antibiotic use based on sensitivity testing and moving toward more targeted application. I would like to test this approach on my farm.

Overall, it was a practical and useful training that provides a clear understanding of how to operate under the new requirements.”

Natalia Bohdanova, a veterinarian and participant, noted:

“The training was interesting and informative, and the topics are highly relevant. I have over 20 years of experience, so most of the issues are familiar. However, there are still areas that require deeper understanding — particularly the record-keeping of antimicrobial drugs: who is responsible and how it should be maintained.

I liked the structure of the training. If future sessions focus more on record-keeping, it would be very helpful.

It is encouraging that such trainings are being held even under current conditions, as they are important for both young and experienced professionals.”

The training series continues, with the next sessions scheduled for May 19–20 in Kyiv. Participation is free of charge, but the number of places is limited. Registration is available by phone: +380688629496.
