During last week’s trading, most purchase prices for slaughter pigs remained within the previous range (UAH 58–62/kg), with quote adjustments generally limited to fluctuations of up to UAH 1/kg. Although isolated prices above the stated maximum were occasionally observed, they have not had a significant impact on regional averages so far, and the weighted average price stood at UAH 61.7/kg. According to suppliers of chilled pork half-carcasses, prices in this segment also remained mostly unchanged this week.
Meat processors are largely trying to return to standard procurement, slaughter and processing volumes, while estimates of the decline in sales vary widely — from a minor 10% to nearly 40% in the most critical cases. At the same time, some processors note that sporadic closures of certain stores within national retail chains due to the challenging energy situation generally do not cause a “collapse” in sales or mass order cancellations, as ordered volumes are redistributed to other outlets. However, retail suppliers point out that emergency power outages have influenced consumer preferences: end customers are increasingly opting for more “convenient” products that require less time to prepare.
Given the mixed impact of these factors, expectations for upcoming trading are not yet clearly formed. Nevertheless, some market participants are beginning to suggest scenarios ranging from continued price stabilisation to a gradual recovery driven by easing pressure from pork supply.
