Average prices for live pigs and pork meat in Brazil declined from March to April, driven by sluggish demand from the processing industry, according to a recent market report from Cepea.

Despite the recent drop, values remain well above year-ago levels, supported by firm demand and restricted supply over the past year.

Brazil’s export performance is providing a bright spot for the sector. Daily average shipments of in natura pork reached 5.8 thousand tons during the first 17 business days of April, up 7.8% from March and a notable 32.4% compared to April 2024.

If this pace holds, Brazil’s pork exports could reach 122.4 thousand tons by month-end—setting a new monthly record in the Secex series, which dates back to 1997.
