Both in peacetime and when warfare, biosecurity remains a priority for pig farms. Without a well-functioning system the farm cannot be protected against pathogens, including African swine fever.

Many pig farms have achieved a very high level of protection by establishing biosecurity protocols, but there are many that are still working on improvement and need expert assistance. To this end, the Association of Ukranian Pig Breeders (AUPB), in collaboration with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), will produce training videos that will demonstrate best biosecurity practices on domestic farms. The focus will be on sanitation of specialised vehicles for admission to the farm territory, organisation of a personnel sanitary station, and reloading of animals at the ramp. Video footage will be produced and made available to the public next year.

"The Association of Ukranian Pig Breeders (AUPB) has been working with market operators to improve biosecurity for about ten years. The successful experience of colleagues is very important. The task of the project, which is being implemented with the support of USDA, is to ensure that the experience of the best farms becomes available to all players. It is not without reason that they say it is better to see once than to hear or read ten times! A well-functioning biosecurity of each individual farm is, as a result, a higher status of pig health nationwide. So the task is ambitious!", commented the industry association.

The Association of Ukranian Pig Breeders is a non-profit, voluntary organisation founded by domestic pork producers. The main objectives of the association are to represent and protect the rights and interests of the association farms, to promote the development and implementation of new technologies for the efficient production of pork, to expand markets, to protect the domestic market.
