The country maintained its position as the third-largest pork producer in the EU despite moderate growth rates.

In 2025, France produced 2.1 million tonnes of pork, which was 0.35% more than in the previous year, according to the latest Eurostat data.

As a result, France retained its status as the third-largest pork producer in the European Union after Spain and Germany. The country accounted for 9.6% of total EU pork production.

Unlike some other major producers, the French pork sector demonstrated moderate and stable growth. For comparison, pork production in Spain increased by 6.4% in 2025, while Poland recorded a 5% increase.

Analysts note that the French pig industry continues the trend of recent years — maintaining stable production volumes without sharp fluctuations.

At the same time, current production levels remain below the peaks recorded in the early 2000s. Nevertheless, France continues to maintain a strong production base and an important role in the European market, particularly in regions highly specialised in livestock production.

Overall, pork production in the European Union reached 21.89 million tonnes in 2025, which was 3.8% higher than a year earlier. This confirms the second consecutive year of recovery following the downturn recorded in 2023.

Thus, the French pig sector continues to demonstrate stability amid overall growth in the European market and maintains its position among the key pork producers in the EU.
