Brazil has reported progress in negotiations with South Korea aimed at expanding market access for agricultural products, particularly pork and beef. Key steps include the certification of egg exports, veterinary audits, and the expansion of the list of Brazilian states eligible to supply pork.

The announcement was made by Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, during an official mission to South Korea. According to the minister, exports of Brazilian eggs to the country are in the final stage of approval: the South Korean authorities have confirmed receipt of the necessary documentation, and the certification is expected to be issued in the coming days.

The parties have also advanced discussions on expanding the number of Brazilian states authorized to export pork to South Korea. Regions officially recognized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) as free from foot-and-mouth disease and classical swine fever will be able to apply for evaluation by South Korean authorities.

Negotiations to open the South Korean market for Brazilian beef have also progressed. Brazil has been seeking access to this market since 2008. According to the minister, South Korea has confirmed that it will conduct veterinary audits at Brazilian meat processing plants.

These developments are part of Brazil’s broader strategy to expand its agricultural exports. Over the past two years alone, the country has opened 538 new international markets for its agricultural products.

Further strengthening of veterinary and trade cooperation between Brazil and South Korea is expected to create new opportunities for meat exports and reinforce Brazil’s position in Asian markets.
