The last week’s trading ended with the increase in quotations by 1.5-2.5 UAH/kg, which accordingly affected the price range. According to the market players, the majority of commodity pigs were purchased at 41-44 UAH/kg. Market operators attribute the positive price dynamic both to the rehabilitation after noticeable quotation weakening in the middle of the month and to the market revival in preparation for the holiday weekend at the beginning of March.
Given this, most pork producers and processors expect the price to increase in the first week of spring. On the other hand, processors doubt whether the positive fluctuations in prices will turn into an upward trend.
According to the survey of meat processing industry representatives, trading remains seasonally weakened. The beginning of pre-Easter fast, although will not affect the price significantly, will not support it either. So, on the one hand, some meatpackers are counting on the price stabilization and the rest expect the price to weaken during the second decade of March. On the other hand, in contrast to March 2019, operators register less pressure from imported pork and more from available poultry.
