Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky called on the EU to lift all restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products imposed in early May 2023. He said this during a speech at a meeting of the EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries (AgriFish), which took place on May 29-30 in Brussels, the press service of the ministry reports.

"The imposed restrictive measures should be canceled. And sustainable solutions should be found in consultations with the participation of Ukraine. We need to make all decisions jointly, adhering to the principles of unity and the EU internal market regime," he said.

The Minister noted that the extension of the EU ban on agricultural exports from Ukraine is not a solution to the problem of oversupply of Ukrainian grain in the border countries. Instead, such a decision can only exacerbate the problem.

According to Solsky, the Russians will definitely use the opportunity to further harm Ukraine and block sea routes, as they did immediately after the EU's decision on restrictions

"Our enemy is insidious and is fighting on all fronts, including the food front. On May 8, immediately after the EU's decision to impose the restrictions, the Russians completely shut down the grain corridor for 10 days. After this decision, some ports are no longer operating. The port of Pivdennyi is blocked. We have to understand that by extending the ban, we automatically reduce the operation of the maritime grain corridor. Because the Russians will obviously take advantage of this, and we will increase the problem, which we will still have to solve together," he said.

On May 2, the EU imposed restrictions on imports of Ukrainian wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower until June 5 to reduce the oversupply of grain in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

These countries have complained that cheaper Ukrainian grain makes domestic production unprofitable.

The European Commission said that during this period, Ukrainian wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower can be sold to any other EU country.
