Work on improving pig farm biosecurity between the Association of Ukranian Pig Breeders (AUPB) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) project has been ongoing since 2014. During this time, an online questionnaire covering all aspects of biosecurity has been developed: transportation, staff hygiene, animal procurement, disinfection, feed safety, etc., and more than twenty biosecurity audits have been carried out.

In 2022, this area of activity resumed. In December, the first assessment of the biosecurity of pig farms in the de-occupied areas took place. The best solutions worth mentioning are the underground gallery leading to the production rooms with the animals. This minimises contact with the environment and therefore minimises the risk of introducing pathogens. Few farms in Ukraine can boast such an approach. It not only has advantages in terms of biosecurity of the farm, but also for the safety of the staff, making it a safe bomb shelter.

For those businesses also wishing to check their biosecurity level, there is an interactive online questionnaire.
