On 27 November, during the first online session on biosafety and the fight against antimicrobial resistance, Oleksandr Revnivtsev, an expert in the field of productive animal health, will talk about the main aspects of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the key factors of its emergence and spread. The training is organised by the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as part of the joint project ‘Keeping Animals Healthy in Ukraine’.

In his presentation, the speaker will

  • provide an overview of the current state of the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) problem, which is becoming a global threat to human and animal health;
  • tell about the history of antibiotics discovery and their key role in the fight against infectious diseases;
  • explain the reasons for the growth of antimicrobial resistance in livestock farming and describe the forecast of this problem.

Oleksandr Revnivtsev emphasises the importance of proper use of antibiotics in agriculture:

‘The discovery of antimicrobials was one of the most important achievements in the history of medicine. However, their incorrect or excessive use poses a serious risk to all of us. The resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics means that infections that were previously thought to be under control can become deadly again. It is extremely important to pay attention to the proper use of antimicrobials in all industries, including livestock.’

Join the session and learn more about how to counteract antimicrobial resistance and protect your farms!
