The first case of African swine fever in Thailand was reported to the OIE after three pigs kept for "companion purposes" died suddenly in the Bangkok Metropolis area on December 1, 2021. The owner had sent carcasses to Kasetsart University for diagnostics and the ASF-positive results were confirmed by officials on January 10, 2022.
Seven other outbreaks have since been reported to the OIE with the start dates of January 16 and 17. Four of these outbreaks have been reported in Nakhon Si Thammarat affecting a total of 233 pigs. The other three outbreaks were reported in Suphan Buri, Chumphon, and Phangnga affecting 20, 45, and 73 pigs respectively.
