The trades on the 45th week ended with weakening of the purchase prices for live pigs, according to results of weekly monitoring of Association Ukranian Pig Breeders. Thus, this week, the average market level was 61.7 UAH/kg, which is 8.5% less than at the beginning of the month. This week, the unevenness of the supply/demand ratio of commodity pigs in different regions of the country has become more pronounced. Although most of commodity batches were sold at UAH 60.5-64 per kg, the price levels above the abovementioned maximum were not singular. In particular, the highest prices this week are recorded in the South and somewhere in the eastern regions.
Representatives of meat processing industry note that the main reason for the price pressure is the reduction of the final sale of chilled pork because of power outages. Thus, meat retailers significantly reduce orders to ensure sales without residuals, and processors further work in conditions of "broken" delivery schedules due to power outages and frequent air raids.
Despite the negative price trend of recent weeks, the vast majority of pork producers are selling all of their consignments with no leftovers. Some processors expect that once the energy situation stabilizes and the final prices for chilled pork are fully revised, the market situation should "level off."
