In the second decade of October, prices for pigs of slaughter conditions weakened slightly, analysts of Association Ukranian Pig Breeders noted.

The bidding for the 41st week was somewhat tighter than the previous ones. According to their results, commodity lots were sold 1.5-4 UAH/kg cheaper than the week before. Thus, the cuttings in the center and the east were sold for 74-77 UAH/kg, and in the western regions they gravitated to 73-74 UAH/kg, though occasionally the prices were lower. The market average weakened by 3.5% to 73.85 UAH/kg.

Producers of pork noted a toughening of price pressure from the procurers. The latter explain it by slowing down the sales of pork through all distribution channels and greater competition from imported raw meat, which came to life at the end of September.

The weakening of pork purchasing prices for October is a characteristic seasonal change due to the reorientation of consumers to alternative types of protein (mushrooms, fish, livestock and poultry meat), as well as preparations for the heating season. Representatives of the meat processing industry believe that the weakened purchasing power of the population may increase the impact of seasonal trends. Besides, the new factor of uncertainty for the meat-processing industry is fan power cuts in many regions of Ukraine. Thus, already this week a number of operators faced refusals from pre-ordered chilled pork or carryovers, which led to the formation of residues and "shifting" of production and delivery schedules.
