Over the past fifteen years, the average size of nests has increased by more than 30%, exacerbating the risk of reduced viability of newborn piglets. As a result, obtaining the same number (+30%) of weanlings fails. Although careful genetic selection, management and hygiene help to maintain piglet survival.
Overcoming this problem, as well as increasing the productivity of sows in the next stages of the reproductive cycle, can be overcome by applying the right feeding strategy during the period from weaning to estrus.
Read about how feeding affects sow productivity, what type of feed is best to feed sows during the service period and what the effectiveness of flushing feeding is in the August issue of Profitable Pig Production: Military Digest.
