Participants in the Animal Health in Ukraine project, implemented by the AUPB and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), have the opportunity to conduct laboratory monitoring of the quality of feed fed to pigs.

Mycotoxins are toxic chemicals produced by fungi. Once ingested, they have a negative effect, causing poor health and reduced production performance. Therefore, research into feed quality and safety is of great importance in ensuring pig health. This is the focus of one of the areas of the Animal Health in Ukraine project, which involves laboratory testing of finished feed and feed raw materials for mycotoxins (aflatoxin, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, fumonisin, ochratoxin, T-2), the total number of fungi and their toxicity.

Such monitoring will allow pig farms to:

  • manage the risks of feed ingredients used in pig feeding;
  • timely use adsorbents to detoxify and minimize the harmful effects of mycotoxins in feed;
  • contribute to the improvement of sustainable crop production;
  • improve the health status of the herd.

The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is a non-profit, voluntary organisation founded by domestic pork producers. The main goals of the association are to represent and protect the rights and interests of the association's farms, promote the development and implementation of new technologies for efficient pork production, expand sales markets, and protect the domestic market.
