Estimated sow inventory in the leading swine producing countries

The breeding stock in the European Union continues to contract and a decrease of 0.8% is projected for the United States. Mexico is expected to surpass Canada and South Korea.

According to the latest USDA estimates published July 12, the breeding sow census in China in 2022 is expected to grow by 1.3% compared to 2021, reaching 40 million head. Likewise, Mexico's sow inventory will grow by 2.4%, reaching 1.29 million heads, surpassing Canada and South Korea, whose breeding sow inventories will reach 1.24 and 1.02 million head, with 0.3% and 2.2% growth, respectively.

On the other hand, the entity projects a decrease in the sow inventories in some of the world's leading producers such as the European Union, which is expected to see a 3.2% decrease in its inventory at 10.9 million head. Likewise, for the United States, a contraction of 0.8% is estimated with 6.13 million head, while for Brazil, stocks of  2.98 million head are projected, with decreases of 1.0% compared to 2021.
