Also, with the assistance of the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB), the project "Animal Health in Ukraine" trained specialists of veterinary and sanitary examination laboratories in agri-food markets on how to act when detecting signs of notifiable animal diseases during clinical examination of live animals and/or veterinary and sanitary examination of products of animal origin, with elements of simulation exercises.
The training was conducted by experts in veterinary medicine and food safety (Vitalii Bashynskyi) and in animal health and transboundary diseases (Oleksandr Revnivtsev).
During the theoretical part of the training, the participants discussed the preparation for breaking the epizootic chain in the agri-food market (on the example of African swine fever) and the Standard Operating Procedure for the actions of veterinary inspectors and employees of veterinary and sanitary examination laboratories in the market when signs of notifiable animal diseases are detected.
As part of the practical part of the training, simulation exercises were conducted on actions to be taken when detecting signs of infectious diseases during veterinary and sanitary examination in the market.
In the process, priorities were identified for providing technical assistance to the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Laboratory of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in terms of modern laboratory equipment.
