Ukraine: pigs mortality on commercial farms decreased by 10%

Pigs commercial livestock decreased by almost 725 thsd. tons due to mortality of animals during 2016. This is lesser than a year before by 10% or 84 heads. It is reported by analytical department of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders with a reference to the State Statistics Service.

However, mortality of livestock significantly increased in some regions. For instance, this figure increased almost fivefold in Volyn region, and by 2,5 and 2,1 times in Mykolaiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions respectively.

In Sumy mortality of pigs rose by nearly 67%, in Vinnytsia and Chernihiv almost by 30% and in Zakarpatia and Kirovohrad regions — by more than a quarter.

It should be reminded that the number of lifestock on comertial pig farms decreased by 4,6% or 131,5 thsd. heads.

In this regard, 1,1% (38.2 thsd. heads) of the total number declined because of ASF spread. The virus made 18 market players leave the industry.

Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders — is a non-profit, voluntary organization. Established in July 14-th, 2011. At present, AUPB unites 35 farms, breeding stock of which amounts to 35% of the national volume. The main objective of the Association is to protect rights and interests of pig enterprises, achieve international standards of production due to implementation of modern technologies.
