The second decade of the year proved to be quite successful for pig producers. The majority of market players were able to keep the planed price at the last week level and even to take hold the achieved positions for another one. Thus, in the 3rd week of January the average live pigs price of the first category amounted to 30,3 UAH/kg. Expected price level of this week concedes to the previous one only by 0.3%.

Monitoring of the purchasing prices of meat processing enterprises shows that pigs mature for slaughter price vary considerably from 29 to 30,5 UAH/kg. Minimum price index was registered in the east, while in the central and western regions live pigs price equals to 29,5-30,5 UAH/kg. Some processors even noted the rise in prices compared to the previous week.

We shall note, that the past two years a downward price movement was much stronger in this period. Pigs mature for slaughter of the first category fell by 7,4%, during 4 weeks of January, 2015. Last year for the same period they dropped by 4.3%, whereas this year — by 2.6%. Pig farms dispose live pigs much more less active as yet they didn’t get back «in to position» after the New Year sales.

Weather conditions also affect situation on the market. Weight gain of the livestock of some producers slightly slows down because of cold weather. Processors tend to purchase local pigs in order to reduce risks. Distribution of ASF also affects purchase geography. Only in January, it was registered in the 9 regions of Ukraine.
