France, Germany and 10 other EU countries are concerned about the introduction of a temporary ban on food imports from Ukraine for five Eastern European countries. This is stated in a joint letter of these countries, which was sent to the European Commission, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

«The 12 countries call for an urgent 'clarification' of the agreement, which the EC concluded «without consultation with EU member states,» the report said.

In the letter, ministers from the 12 countries expressed «serious concern» about the agreement, which they said «undermines the integrity of the EU's internal market.»

«We call on the commission to return to a transparent procedure on the established rules within the framework of the functioning of the EU and its member states,» the statement said, whose signatories also include the Netherlands, Ireland, Greece, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Luxembourg, Estonia, Denmark and Slovenia.

Also, the signatories of the letter ask the European Commission to explain «how and why it provided € 100 million of support» to farmers in Eastern Europe and call on the EU to further discuss the agreement.
