The number of pigs is estimated on the level 6, 69 million heads, as a condition on the 1st January. This is a decline of 5,5% or 390 ths. heads from the last year. It is reported by analytical department of The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders with a reference to the State Statistics Service.

In particular, the amount of backyard pigs has been reduced by 7,7% or 3,12 ths. heads compared to the last year. Decrease of the commercial livestock was quite moderate and reached 3,57 ths. heads (-4,6%).

Accordingly, commercial livestock won back 1% shares of backyard farms at the beginning of the year. Its proportion of the total livestock accounts for 53%.

In the meantime, reducing the capacity of the industrial pig farming has affected 70% of regions. Positive dynamics retains only in western regions (Volynska, Ivano-Frankivska and Lvivska oblast). The number of pigs in agricultural enterprises increased by 37.2 ths. heads. Donetsk region remains a leader  on the number of pigs among commercial farms with a slightly restoring by 3,1%in Ukraine.

Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders  is a non-profit, voluntary organization. Established in July    14-th, 2011. At present , AUPB  unites 35 farms, breeding stock of which amounts  to 35% of the national volume. The main objective of the Association is to protect rights and interests of pig enterprises, achieve international standards of production due to implementation of modern technologies.
