The Livestock Market: Week 13

© Regional ranges of average buying prices for live hogs of the first category for the 13th week of 2023

At the end of March the fluctuations of purchase prices for pigs of slaughter conditions was limited to 0.3-1 UAH/kg, according to the results of weekly monitoring of Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.

Last week's trading ended with a slight deviation of prices for live hogs: some operators added 0.3-1 UAH/kg cheaper than a week before, but in some places the change was positive. Thus, in the western regions and occasionally in other regions the minimum price was reduced to 72 UAH/kg, but the price maximum was still at the level of 75 UAH/kg, as a week before. The weighted average market mark has shifted by 0.6% against the previous week, amounting to 73.05 UAH/kg.

The majority of operators explain this fluctuation by a pause between the peaks of procurement: deep meat processors have formed the necessary stocks of raw materials for production of Easter delicacies, and retailers have not yet started preparation for holidays. However, processors expect a revival of trade in the near future, some expect a 20% increase in sales during the pre-holiday period.

The results of the weekly monitoring of the procurement prices from processors you can find in this section.
