According to the figures, currently, in Peru, there is an average consumption of 5.5 kg per person and year, a level much lower than that of cities like Hong Kong (75 kg), or nations of the EU (that exceed 40 kg) or even Chile (that reaches 26 kg). The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mr. Juan Manuel Benites declared that the actions of the sector are oriented towards doubling the consumption of pork.

Benites pointed out that the actions adopted by the sector to increase the consumption have been the institutionalisation of the «National Day of the Peruvian Pork Rinds» that, was made official, through a Ministerial Order, for every third Saturday of June. At the same time, he declared that the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI), through the Programme of Compensations for Competitiveness (AGROIDEAS), has allowed the co-financing of business plans in some regions of the country.
