In February 2017 consumer sentiments have become more optimistic compared to the beginning of the year. This is confirmed by appropriate monitoring of GfK agency and reported by analytical department of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB)

Thus, expectations of national currency decrease and price growth have weakened and stopped near the October and respectively December level of 2016.

As experts emphasize, consumer evaluations of personal financial situation in February were better than at the beginning of 2017. Even though, this index didn’t reach the maximum value of the previous year, which was observed in June 2016. Thus, in the last winter month relevant index added 2.4 points and was fixed at the level, which is by 1.4 points higher than in the same period last year.

It should be noted that the devaluation expectations index and inflation one are lower now than a year ago.

As you know, an optimistic consumer has a better appetite, especially on pork. Updated Economic Discussion Club data on supply and demand balance has shown some pork consumption increase. During January and February of this year, Ukrainians ate 158 ths. tonnes of pork and pork meat products, which is by 1.3% more than in the corresponding period of 2016.

Although poultry is more popular than pork by 9.5%, index of this kind of meat in nutrient budget of Ukrainians decreased by 8.5% compared to the last year.
