Meat consumption in Germany fell to its lowest level in more than three decades in 2022 because of declining interest in pork, according to data.

The average German ate 52 kilograms of meat last year, about 4.2 kilograms less than in 2021 and the lowest since the government began tracking meat consumption in 1989.

Meanwhile, the nation's production levels are falling amid falling demand, preliminary data from the Federal Agriculture Information Center show.

In 2022, 9.8 percent less pork was produced than in 2021, and 8.2 percent less beef and veal. Net poultry production fell by 2.9%.
