In the middle of this month, market operators were surprised with live pigs’ farm-gate price the average of wich jumped up to average 34 UAH/kg. However, this upward movement continues and at the beginning of the third decade the price varies between 35-36 UAH/kg.

Brisk price gain on pigs mature for slaughter is shaped by tight supply and pretty active demand. Some purchasers note that it was not an easy task to order amount of slaughter to work effectively. However, a share of purchasers complains about weak sales, others have been forced to reduce purchase volumes or even refrain for a while due to such price sales level.

Unpredictable spread of ASF slightly stimulates pork demand of meat processing plants. Purchasers store pork more actively in order not to stay without meat before holidays due to new possible outbreaks. Furthermore, demand is slightly increased as certain meat processors replace beef by alternative, less expensive kinds of meat, including pork. These moods do not prevail between meat processing, still the mentioned factors do stimulate the price growth.

Further farm-gate price movement predictions remain mixed. Some expect upward movement to continue, others, on the contrary, wait for the price weaken and reach more comfortable level of 35 UAH/kg.

However, there is a possibility that pork offer will slightly rise due to additional volumes of slaughter offered by small pig farms in the coming weeks. This in turn will have a discouraging impact on price level of pigs mature for slaughter.
