In 2023, the volume of imports of agricultural machinery to Ukraine continued to decline due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which took place on February 24, 2022. However, its pace has slowed down significantly, said Yaroslav Navrotskyi, Senior Researcher at the Department of Investment and Logistics of the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", PhD in Economics.

According to him, the decrease in tractor imports for 7 months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 amounted to 53.5% in terms of quantity and 33.9% in terms of value. At the same time, the decrease in tractor imports in January-July 2023 compared to the same period in 2022 amounted to only 3.5% in terms of quantity and 16.9% in terms of value. It was driven by the growing demand for low-power tractors, which are mainly used in small farms and households.

In 2023, there is a tendency to increase the import of low-power tractors, especially in the category of up to 18 kW, which are used mainly by households, the scientist noted. In January-July 2023, 3194 units of new and 831 units of used tractors were imported to Ukraine (20.6% of the total number of imported machines), while in the same period in 2022, only 3076 and 315 (9.3%) units of tractors were imported, respectively. In 2021, only 468 used tractors of this category were imported in 7 months.

Imports of tractors in the category of high engine power decreased both in quantity and value, in particular: tractors with engine power of 75-130 kW decreased to 891 units (-32.55%) and to USD 38.4 million (23.2%). The sales of tractors with engine power over 130 kW decreased to 707 units (-12.5%) and to USD 104.0 mln. USD (-4.5%).

In January-July 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, there was a further decrease in imports of combine harvesters: to 1329 units (-13.8%) in quantitative terms and to USD 100.8 million (-30%). USD (-30.3%) in value terms.

The number of imported cultivators decreased by 46% to 13,251 units, and their customs value decreased by 29.2% to USD 14.7 mln. USD.
