The Polish government has decided to ban the import of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine in order to protect the Polish agricultural sector.

The corresponding order was published by the Minister of Development and Technology Waldemar Buda on Twitter.

Hungary, following Poland, has temporarily banned the import of cereals and oilseeds, as well as some other agricultural products from Ukraine, said Hungarian Agriculture Minister Istvan Nagy, 24. hu writes.

According to him, the government is committed to representing the interests of Hungarian farmers, and in the absence of effective measures by the EU, it, as well as Poland, will temporarily ban imports of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine and some other agricultural products in Hungary.

The minister said that the continuation of current market trends would cause such serious damage to Hungarian agriculture that emergency measures must be taken to prevent this.

As previously reported, Polish Minister of Agriculture Henryk Kowalczyk resigned on April 5. He was appointed Minister in October 2021. The decision to deprive the minister of his position was made by the Law and Justice party because Kowalczyk failed to cope with the crisis related to Ukrainian grain.
