According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine for 10 months of 2020, Ukraine received 18.18 thousand tons of pork from EU countries. This makes up 91% of the volume of annual export quotas on pork for suppliers from the European Union, say analysts of the Association of Ukranian Pig Breeders.

«Under the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, supplies of fresh, chilled and frozen pork (UKT FED 0203) within 20 thousand tons are not subject to import duty. Thus, by the end of the year domestic importers will be able to buy another 1.82 thousand tons of pork without paying duty. Keeping pace of the dynamics of imports in recent months, market operators believe that the quotas for pork supplies from the EU will run out before the end of November. At the same time, it should be noted that behind the «zero» rate of import duty it is possible to import not the whole assortment, but only some subitems: in accordance with the terms of the Agreement, half of the quoted volumes applies to all commodity items, and an additional 10 thousand tons for chilled and frozen pork carcasses, unrolled parts (scapula, brisket, front edge, their cuts and other parts on the bone). Therefore, the import of chilled products is not included in this list and after the exhaustion of quotas will cost domestic importers of meat raw materials by 12% more expensive, and frozen pork  by 10%, » explained in the Association.

«The most active European traders on the Ukrainian market during 2020 were Danish and Polish exporters, who in total supplied 12.6 thousand tons of pork or almost 53% of imported pig meat to Ukraine. The share of other European countries : the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France, Lithuania accounted for less than 24% of total import for the period », the analysts add.
