Wallonia is once again taking measures against the overpopulation of wild boars that they have been struggling with for years in the south of the country.

According to Minister Willy Borsus, since hunting efforts began in 2019 nearly 92,000 wild boar have been killed, but the wild boar population remains a problem in Wallonia and efforts need to be intensified.

Hunting wild boars at night will be permitted in open plains under strict conditions. In areas where hunting is difficult, the use of traps is permitted. Additional drives can also be organized at the end of the hunting season when shooting targets are not achieved and there is a risk to agriculture or public health.

In addition, feeding bans will be introduced and the Walloon government will extend the hunting period. It will run until February 20 in the 2023-2024 season and until January 31 in the 2024-2025 season.
