The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders held a technical seminar for the segment of small producers who received pigs as part of an assistance project initiated by the International Humanitarian Organization Mercy Corps.

During the event, the experts and partners of the USBP — Oksana Yurchenko, President of the USBP, FAO expert on biosafety of agricultural enterprises, Vasyl Lymar, Chief Technologist of Agroprime Holding LLC, and Oleksandr Revnivtsev, PhD, FAO animal health expert — explained the components of effective pig breeding to small farmers who have started pig production and plan to expand their activities.

The speakers focused on the technological aspects of keeping and feeding pigs, the basic principles of biosecurity of pig farms, ways to minimize the risks of African swine fever, the specifics of animal treatment and antibiotic handling to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.

It is worth reminding that since January 2024, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Ukrainian Pig Association (UPA) have been implementing the second phase of the project "Ensuring Animal Health in Ukraine" aimed at supporting pork producers in the issue of epizootic welfare.

The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is a non-profit, voluntary organization founded by Ukrainian pork producers. The main purposes of the association are representation and protection of rights and interests of farms of the association, assistance in development and introduction of new technologies for efficient production of pork, expansion of sales markets, and protection of domestic sales market.
