Almost all Animals Died in Nova Kakhovka Zoo Due to Hydroelectric Power Plant Explosion

In the occupied Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region, the zoo "Fairy Tale Grove" was completely flooded due to the russians' explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Almost all the animals died, only swans and ducks survived. This was reported in the UAnimals community. 

"Friends, we talked to the management of the Fairy Tale Grove Zoo in occupied Nova Kakhovka. We were confirmed that the zoo was completely flooded and only swans and ducks could escape. The person we spoke to (we are not naming him for security reasons) said: "We tried our best to keep the zoo alive during the occupation. Now it doesn't exist anymore," told in the statement.

Prior to the tragedy, the Fairy Tale Forest Zoo was home to monkeys, raccoons, a donkey, ponies, nutria, various birds, porcupines, marmots, turtles, and many other species.

On June 6, at about 02:30 am, russian occupants blew up the dam of the Kakhovka Reservoir. Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, said that the evacuation of the local population from the dangerous areas had begun. According to him, the water will reach a critical level in five hours.

The press service of Ukrhydroenergo said that the Kakhovka HPP was completely destroyed due to the explosion of the engine room from the inside, and the plant is not subject to restoration. Experts are working to clarify the extent of the damage, the speed and volume of water.
